At Rowallan Camp, we recently had the pleasure of hosting a spirited group of 20 students from The Leys School, Cambridge. Their stay was filled with adventure, learning, and unforgettable experiences that left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Upon their arrival, the students were immediately captivated by the beauty of Matobo National Park. One of the highlights of their visit was the exciting rhino tracking activity. Guided by experienced professionals, the students had the opportunity to see White Rhinos in their natural habitat. The thrill of observing these majestic creatures up close was truly an awe-inspiring experience for the students.
Our camp is nestled at the foot of the stunning kopje hill, Imadzi. The students eagerly took on the challenge of climbing this beautiful hill, and the breathtaking 360-degree views from the top were well worth the 30 minute effort. The climb was not just a physical challenge, but also a bonding experience that brought the group closer together.
In addition to exploring the natural wonders of the park, the students visited the Amagugu International Heritage Centre. Here, they immersed themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the region, learning about local traditions and the unique way villages raise children. This visit provided valuable insights into the vibrant cultural tapestry of Matobo.
Back at the camp, the students enjoyed a hearty and delicious dinner featuring a warthog on a spit. This unique culinary experience was a delightful way to end an action-packed day, and the students relished every moment while sharing stories and laughter around the campfire.
Throughout their stay, the students displayed a keen interest in learning about the wildlife and cultural practices of the area. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were infectious, and it was a joy to see them engage so deeply with the experiences offered.
Hosting The Leys School students was a wonderful experience for us at Rowallan Camp. Their visit was a reminder of the importance of connecting with nature and learning about different cultures. We look forward to welcoming more groups in the future and creating more memorable adventures.
